The "Parish Church Interiors in Changing Times" Conference
Last December, Historic England and the University of Leicester held a two day conference on Parish Church Interiors in Changing Times.
It provided a great opportunity for partners to share expertise, hear diverse perspectives and engage in constructive discussion about the changing historic, liturgical and pastoral significance of church interiors. The presentations, workshops and discussions have now been made available online together with a summary of all the feedback offered by delegates.
The themes covered included:
- Setting the Context: The Church’s Perspective
- Visions of Church and Churches in the 20th century
- Fixtures and Fittings
- Revitalising and Rebuilding
- Experiencing Change
- Debating Significance and Value
And you can watch videos via YouTube of various presentations on the visions of key 19th and 20th century architects, case studies focusing on specific churches, managing change from the perspective of the Victorian Society and the Twentieth Century Society as well as more nitty gritty subjects such a suprisingly fascinating talk entitled an historic Perkins heating system reused.
